Storyline:
This story is about Aerith and Zack. It mostly follows the lyrics...
It starts out when Aerith and Zack meet in the old church and strike up a conversation.
Now lately I've been wishing I had one desire
Zack is lonely, and meeting Aerith had seemed like a godsend. He had no one to love for just himself. Sure several people had come across and he had dated but no one gave him the feeling he so desperately wanted.
Something that would make me never want another
As Zack talked to Aerith he began to spill his heart out about how he was lonely yet not. How no one seemed to fill this void.
Something that would make it so that nothing mattered
All would be clear then
And Aerith listened and Zack felt his burden lessen, felt more at peace. However he knew the meeting wouldn't last long. He was a SOLDIER and she a mere flower girl who happened to be the last Cetra living in the slums.
But I guess I'll have to settle for a few brief moments
And watch it all dissolve into a single second
He spent the entire day with Aerith, laughing and having fun he was sometimes denied as a SOLDIER. He committed the entire day to memory, not wanting to ever forget the flower girl in the slums and the peace she brought.
And try to write it down into a perfect sonnet
Or one foolish line
Aerith knew that she would never really get to see Zack much after their first initial meeting and so, before he left, she handed him a note with a smile.
Something to help keep the memory of her and their short time together alive.
'Cause that's all that you'll get so you'll have to accept
You are here then your gone
And so Zack was called away and left, however he kept the little note on him always. Soon however the memories of Aerith began to fade little by little until he hardly remembered her or the note.
But I believe that lovers should be tied together and
Thrown into the ocean in the worst of weather
And left there to drown
Left there to drown in their innocence
He still kept the note on him at all times though, and when he took it out he'd find himself remembering Aerith all over again. Remembering the happiness that single day brought him and the naive hope that it could always be that way.
But as for me I'm coming to the final chapter
I read all of the pages and there's still no answer
Only all that was before I know must soon come after
That is the only way it can be
Zack eventually finds himself on the run, a fugitive due to betrayal to the Shinra Company. The only thing keeping him going was the thought of Aerith, and her note.
So I stand in the sun
And I breathe with my lungs
Trying to spare me the weight of the truth
He knew though that he couldn't run and hide forever. Soon he would have to face Shinra, and it wouldn't be pretty.
Saying everything you've ever seen was just a mirror
And you've spent your whole life sweating in an endless fever
And now you're laying in a bathtub full of freezing water
Wishing you were a ghost
The truth was painful and Zack so wanted to deny it, deny that he ever was faced with his current situation but he couldn't. Really, he couldn't deny it at all.
But once you knew a girl and you named her Lover
And danced with her in kitchens through the greenest summer
Shinra had caught up with Zack and eventually the young man found himself dying and remembering Aerith--the memories seeming much clearer now than before.
That first day, the laughter, the hope and wishes that it could last for forever.
But autumn came, she disappeared
You can't remember where she said she was going to
Back in the Church Aerith remembered Zack as well. She had a feeling that the bright eyed and laughing young SOLDIER was in peril. Dying. Gone.
But you know that she's gone 'cause she left you a song
That you don't want to sing
She remembered the note she had given Zack, the message she had left and his smile that promised he would come back; a promise that she knew was gone.
We're singing I believe that lovers should be chained together
And thrown into a fire with their songs and letters
Left there to burn
Left there to burn in their arrogance
Aerith bowed her head in what she knew deep down was a futile prayer--a prayer that Zack would see her again alive and healthy. That he couldn't die because he promised even if it was just a smile.
But as for me I'm coming to my final failure
I've killed myself with changes trying to make things better
But I ended up becoming something other than what I had planned to be
And Aerith couldn't help but feel as if she had failed Zack in some way. Failed by letting him leave. By letting him go out to change the world...to fight for Shinra and against Shinra as a SOLDIER.
Now I believe that lovers should be draped in flowers
And layed entwined together on a bed of clover
And left there to sleep
Left there to dream of their happiness
In the end both Zack and Aerith's one day become nothing but a mere dream to be something more.
And the note that Aerith had given Zack before he left, a note that held promises of seeing one another again, of beng together and living happily ever after, was tainted by blood, weathered by years, and the words faded beyond recognition.
