Storyline:

Zack died protecting Cloud from Shinra, and Cloud was never really the same afterward. He kept hearing Zack as if he was still alive.

"Zack. What happened?"

I'm a SOLDIER. Therefore just fighting is fine. I can leave all the complicated things for someone else to think about. What is there to be angry about? Who is the enemy? That kind of stuff shouldn't matter to me!

Cloud was sick, even if he wouldn't admit it. The fact that Geostigma showed up only made his situation worse.

Cloud! Run!

Cloud knew Zack was gone but he didn't want to believe; how could he when he heard Zack? When he could speak with him?

"Hey Zack. If only I was a SOLDIER too."

SOLDIERs are like monsters. So forget about it.

How the hell could you have done this?! OI! How the hell could you have done this?!

He kept getting worse and worse; he could even swear he was hearing Zack yelling at him for caring and taking care of Tifa--something Zack would never have done before.

"On my behalf."

"On your behalf."

"That's right. You will."

"You will?"

Cloud couldn't tell his delusions from reality any more. It just kept getting worse and worse. He kept getting sicker and sicker.

Everyone's always using me as they please.

And it wasn't long before he started hearing someone Zack had met. Genisis.

SOLDIER 1st Class! Zack!

It was driving him nuts; he couldn't fight Sephiroth's remnants this way. He couldn't live on this way.

Live!

Confused, ill, yet still fighting Cloud found himself facing off with Yazoo and Loz.

Executive Manager!

"You are..."

It was a suicide attack. Cloud knew it, deep down, but he was too far gone to actively realize it.

"...the proof that I existed."

We're friends, right?

Yazoo and Loz used all their materia to blow up the building, the resulting explosion killing both them and Cloud.

Next all Cloud knew was white light and Zack saying those final words he had said to him as he died.

"My pride and dreams...I give it all to you."

And it grew silent. Zack's voice had left him. Cloud was alone in darkness now; he never got to see Zack again.
